Description

This book examines a range of subjects and issues related to Buddhism, which are rarely given the attention they deserve. With a mastery of the ancient Buddhist texts and an eye for the unusual, the author looks at subjects such as the Buddha's toothbrush, his travels, what he said about food and friendship, and topical issues including smoking and capital punishment. These essays bring into focus the scope and depth of Buddhism as a philosophy of life. Bhante Dhammika studied at Kelaniya University's Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies. He was a co-founder of the Nilambe Meditation Centre in Sri Lanka and represented Theravada at the European Buddhist Union Millennium Conference in Berlin in 2000. A well-known speaker and writer, his numerous books on various aspects of Buddhism have been translated into over 30 languages.
