Description

Kenny Burrell & John Coltrane captures a landmark Prestige session recorded March 7, 1958, with Burrell's lyrical guitar trading phrases with Coltrane's tenor alongside Tommy Flanagan, Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb. Originally released in 1963 on Prestige, the album gathers five tracks that balance lyricism and hard bop, including Freight Trane and Why Was I Born. The 2024 Original Jazz Classics reissue from Craft Recordings is mastered from the original tapes with all-analog processing, presenting the music as a focused quartet dialogue. An essential listen for fans of Coltrane's sideman work and Burrell's melodic sensibility.
