Excerpt from In Memory of Hope Reed Born April 14, 1870, Died November 7 1899Even in this early period of life he evidenced his genius for leadership. Two instances may be noted.As an editor of an amateur paper (an experience which made him an easy writer, much to his advan tage in after life), he became interested in the West ern Amateur Press Association, and was soon elected president of that organization. Shortly afterwards, although at graduation the youngest in his class at Northwestern College at Naperville, he was chosen the class president. We have been called a nation of presidents. In these days nearly everyone, during his experience, becomes the chief executive of some organization. But it is significant that so early in life Hope Reed Cody was at the head of those movements with which he was identified.After his graduation from the Union College of Law, in 1890, he moved to Chicago and entered into the practice of the law with his father and his brother, Arthur B. Cody, under the firm name of Hiram H. Cody Sons.He continued to lead the organizations of which he was a member.
