Essays in Zen Buddhism

Essays in Zen Buddhism
Essays in Zen Buddhism

A classic path to everyday enlightenment

This is a thoughtful, foundational read for anyone curious about Zen beyond surface-level calm or mystique. Suzuki makes Zen feel lived rather than merely studied, connecting big ideas like Satori to ordinary frustrations and daily practice. Readers often come away feeling both challenged and steadied, as if they have been shown a new way to look at life itself.

Description

Dr. D.T. Suzuki's Essays in Zen Buddhism offers a clear introduction to Zen as a way of perceiving, acting and being. Suzuki outlines the origins of Zen as a Chinese interpretation of the Doctrine of Enlightenment and describes how Satori (Sudden Enlightenment) can be attained, while stressing that Zen must be lived as a practical path that copes with the demands and frustrations of daily life. The book explores the history of Buddhism, the daily life of a Zen monk, and the path to enlightenment, presenting Zen not as a religion but as a pervasive approach to living. A classic introduction to Zen and a foundation for a fulfilled life.
