Canadian-centric ecology with real-world applications.

If you're about to dive into your first ecology course, Manuel C. Molles Jr.'s book could be a strong ally. Not only does it lay down foundational concepts with a Canadian twist, making it relatable, but it also ties ecological principles to pressing environmental issues. Moreover, its emphasis on evolutionary biology could deepen your understanding of the natural world, while its quantitative approach helps you grasp the more technical aspects of ecology.

Description

Ecology: Concepts and Applications is a book written for students taking their first undergraduate course in ecology. Ecology is an integrative discipline, and thus a foundation in other sciences is important. We assume students in this course have some knowledge of basic chemistry and mathematics and have completed a general biology course that includes introductions to physiology, biological diversity, and evolution. When writing this text, the authors had four goals: teach the foundations of ecology using Canadian examples to help students relate to the material; link the science of ecology to real-world problems; emphasize the linkage between ecology and evolutionary biology; and enhance students' quantitative understanding.
