From Rosenberg's Introduction: "This book tells the story of those women who launched the modern study of sex differences. With the exception of the youngest, none of them was ever famous, and all are now forgotten. But their ideas have endured. Trained as social scientists in the new research universities of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, these women formulated theories about intelligence, personality development, and sex roles that not only altered American thinking about the nature of women and men, but also affected the whole course of American social science."

Binding of book is tight. Slight wear and tear on covers of book. Price tag on back cover. Creases, small stains and tears on spine, which is especially tired. Foxing and slight shelf wear around edges of book, foxing heaviest on top edge. Faint spots of foxing on certain pages of book, otherwise pages in clean and very good condition.
