Smyth's Introduction: "This book has been compiled in the belief that girls and boys in middle and upper forms should enjoy poetry read in class or should at least have honest satisfaction from it... The anthology is thoroughly representative of the main stream of English poetry, but there is little point in this unless it is also a book that will give much pleasure."

Binding of book is intact. Heavy wear and tear on covers of book. Spine has split a little at top and bottom edges. Also a wormhole on hinge, at back of book. Moderate tanning and shelfwear around edges of book. An annotation and stamps on both endpapers. Annotations in pencil and some foxing on certain pages of book. Foxing at its most severe on first and final pages of book.
