Description

Melanie Charles's Y'all Don't (Really) Care About Black Women reimagines Verve classics through a contemporary lens, weaving jazz with bold, modern arrangements. Originally released in November 2021 on Verve/Impulse, the LP honors Black women vocalists with reimagined takes on songs such as God Bless the Child and Detour Ahead. Charles is a Brooklyn-based pianist and vocalist whose project centers storytelling and social themes, presenting the record as a love letter to the unheralded labor of Black women. This release invites listeners to reconsider the jazz canon and celebrate Black women's pivotal contributions.
