Wilderness adventure turns survival thriller.

If the wild outdoors and the intensity of human resilience against nature's caprice captivate you, "Deliverance" will not disappoint. It's not just about the physical challenge of navigating a treacherous river, but also about the psychological journey that accompanies a trip gone desperately awry. Dickey weaves tension and terror in such realistic strokes that you’ll feel the spray of the rapids and the palpable fear of the hunted.

Description

A group of middle-aged friends, in search of the wilderness experience missing from their big-city lives, go canoeing for a weekend. They pack their usual survival gear—plus a banjo and a bow and arrow—and head off. Naive and unskilled, they paddle downstream, enjoying the exercise and the scenery. But something is in the air. There are signs as their canoes hit sudden rapids; the river seems polluted with litter and bird feathers; and during the night their tent is punctured by the talons of a hunting owl. The following day, after mooring their canoes by the woods, they are approached by two sinister men—one carrying a shotgun and the other a knife.
